Software Research Engineer (Computer Vision / Machine Learning Specialization)

As a Software Research Engineer in the FORMULATRIX Innovation Lab team, you will study and implement algorithms from research papers, adapt them to solve the problem at hand, and develop modular code that can be easily integrated into parent projects. For this particular role, you will focus on solving machine learning and computer vision (CV/ML) problems. You’ll be working on the technology that will be deployed to our liquid handling robots and laboratory automation products.
What Will You Do:
- Study and implement machine learning and computer vision algorithms.
- Develop understanding of the problem domain and propose innovative solutions.
- Define and evaluate objective metrics of system performance.
- Write modular proof-of-concept code designed for easy integration into parent projects.
- Write reports and present findings.
- Be a thought partner for other engineers, supporting them with your skillset.
Requirements
What We Look For:
- At least Bachelor’s (S1/D4) degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent professional experience in CV/ML software development.
- Previous industry experience is a plus, but not required. Fresh graduates are welcome.
- Solid coding skills in modern programming languages, preferably Python, C#, or C++.
- Strong background in machine learning tasks and algorithms (image classification, object detection, language models, etc.).
- Well versed in data preparation, training, deployment, and maintenance of machine learning models.
- Enjoys reading research papers and learning the latest advances in the field. Previous experience in research is very much appreciated.
- Familiar with relevant libraries: TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, Scikit-learn, Scikit-image, ONNX Runtime, etc.
- A passion for learning new technical skills.
- Highly motivated and strong team player.
- Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with LLM architecture (transformer, attention, tokenizer, etc.), and prompting techniques (RAG, chain of thought, agentic workflow, etc.).
- A good understanding of what constitutes a high-quality datase, and how to gather such datasets.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, etc.) for machine learning training and/or deployment.
- Experience training with GPU and Google TPU
- Familiarity with MLops principles.
- Knowledge of computer vision algorithms: filters, histogram, contour, blob, edge detection, SIFT, ORB, camera calibration, etc.
- Knowledge of Software design patterns and best practices in programming.
- Not afraid of hardware.
- Good command of math and physics.
